Ingredients
- 300 g fresh watermelon, deseeded and cubed
- 1 g spirulina powder
- Juice of half a lime
- Pinch of sea salt
- Small handful fresh mint
- Ice
Method
- Blend watermelon until smooth. Add spirulina, lime juice, salt, and mint.
- Blend again briefly — just enough to incorporate the spirulina and bruise the mint.
- Pour over ice. Drink immediately for best colour.
Why this pairing works
Watermelon has the sweetest and most intense flavour profile of any smoothie base — the spirulina cannot be detected at this dose. The pink-to-green colour shift is striking. A pinch of salt brings out both the watermelon sweetness and masks any remaining spirulina bitterness.
Note. The colour will be a surprising deep pink-green — vivid and unusual. Make it fresh; watermelon separates quickly.
