About

A quiet project, 19 years in the making.

Spirulina Guru is the editorial home of an independent community. It was started — and is still moderated — by one person who has spent two decades reading every paper, testing every brand, and listening to thousands of users.

Why this site exists

In 2007, I started a small Facebook group called Spirulina Love. The internet was a different place: there were almost no honest English-language resources about spirulina, and most of what existed was marketing copy from supplement companies.

19 years later, the group has grown into the largest organic (non-paid) community on the web for people who use, grow, study, or sell spirulina — currently over 14,000+members. In all that time the rules haven’t changed: no spam, no miracle claims, no brand wars. Just real questions and patient answers.

This site is the next step. Group conversations are wonderful but ephemeral — the same question gets asked every week. A website lets us answer it once, properly, and link back to it every time.

What this site is — and isn’t

It is an editorial reference: calm explanations of what spirulina is, how to use it well, who should be careful with it, what good quality looks like, and which brands and growers earn our respect over time.

It isn’ta supplement shop, a medical resource, or a brand-of-the-month blog. We don’t take money from spirulina manufacturers in exchange for coverage. When we link to a product and earn a small commission, we say so on every page where it happens.

Editorial principles

  1. Independent. No brand sponsorship influences what we cover or how we cover it.
  2. Evidence-graded. When we write about benefits, we tell you what kind of evidence supports the claim — and what doesn’t.
  3. Conservative on safety. Where we’re uncertain, we say so, and we point you to your doctor.
  4. Useful first. Pages exist to answer real questions, not to rank for keywords.
  5. Reader-supported. Affiliate links and a future paid newsletter tier keep the site running. Always disclosed.

Who I am

I’m Yunus, based in Turkey. I’m not a doctor, a dietitian, or an algae scientist. I’m a long-time user, a careful reader, and a community moderator. The authority of this site doesn’t come from a title — it comes from two decades of reading, listening, and not pretending to know things I don’t.
