Green goddess smoothie

Spinach, banana, mint, lime, spirulina. Everything green at once.

Yields
1 large smoothie
Time
5 minutes
Spirulina
2 g

Ingredients

  • 1 large handful baby spinach
  • 1 ripe banana, frozen
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 5 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon spirulina powder
  • 200 ml unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt (optional, for body)

Method

  1. Blend the spinach with the milk first — 20 seconds — to liquefy the leaves.
  2. Add everything else, blend on high for 45 seconds.
  3. Taste. If too vegetal, add another splash of lime or a date.

Why this pairing works

Spinach has its own non-haem iron load, so this is a useful pairing for anyone consciously building iron status. The mint isn't for show — its volatile oils briefly numb the bitter receptors and cover any vegetal tail-end.

Variations

  • Replace banana with half a frozen pear for less sugar.
  • Swap mint for basil — it sounds wrong, it isn't.
