Date-cacao spirulina protein shake

A meal-replacement shake: dates for carbohydrate, hemp for protein, cacao for richness, spirulina for iron and B12-adjacent nutrients.

Ingredients

  • 3 Medjool dates, pitted
  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 1.5 teaspoons spirulina powder
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 250 ml oat milk, cold
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 5 ice cubes

Method

  1. Soak dates in warm water for 3 minutes if they're dry; drain.
  2. Blend everything except ice on high for 60 seconds.
  3. Add ice; blend another 20 seconds.
  4. Pour immediately — this settles fast.

Why this pairing works

Hemp seeds provide all essential amino acids, making this a complete protein alongside spirulina's amino acid profile. The cacao bitterness merges with spirulina so cleanly that neither is discernible individually. At 3 g spirulina, this is a meaningful clinical dose.
