Brand review · Japan
DIC Lifetec
DIC Lifetec (formerly DIC Corporation's Life Sciences division) has produced spirulina in both Japan and China since 1977. They are one of the world's largest spirulina producers by volume and supply bulk spirulina to nutraceutical companies globally. Their production is split between Japanese facilities (higher-cost, higher-control) and Inner Mongolia, China (large volume, competitive pricing).
Strengths
- ✓One of the world's largest producers — massive supply reliability
- ✓Decades of pharmaceutical-grade production systems, particularly in Japan
- ✓Strong presence in Japanese domestic market where food safety standards are very high
- ✓Consistent quality at volume — used by major international supplement brands
Weaknesses
- –China-sourced production makes independent testing more important than usual
- –Consumer brand presence minimal in Western markets
- –The corporate scale means less traceability than smaller artisanal producers
Our verdict
A credible large-scale source for buyers who need volume and consistency. The Japanese production facilities are genuinely high-standard; the China-sourced material is more dependent on batch-level testing for confidence. Request the CoA and specifically verify the production location.
